Thanks for your comment! I didn't know that anyone was still reading this, so it's nice to find that you are.

As for Rushdie, I would recommend Midnight's Children as a good starting point. It's not an easy book, but the narrator is very engaging, and I found that helped me get into the story. It's also a very interesting way to learn about the history of modern India. I have to confess that I'm intimidated by Satanic Verses, and have never read it. Perhaps if I like Moor I'll read that next.
