I'm still reading The Accidental Tourist, and I guess I'm liking it a little bit more than I was last time I posted, but I still don't think it's especially good. Tyler's characters seem more like collections of stereotypes than like any real people I know. They each have one major characteristic that identifies them, and Tyler doesn't delve any deeper than that. Muriel is flaky and illogical, Julian is superficial, and both of Macon's brother are defined solely by their quirky obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms. It just makes it kind of boring. Tyler may still surprise me with some kind of knock-em-dead ending that will redeem the book, so I'm reluctant to write it off completely yet.
In journal-maintenance notes, I have created a memories section for entries about the best books that I have read since I've been keeping this journal. I find myself looking for these entries with some frequency, so now they will be more easily located.
