I'm glad you warmed up to WonderBoys, however it appears for entirely different reasons as I. My least favorite part of the book was Passover, as I felt Chabon spent too much time at too-detailed a level concerning that meal. Granted the family dynamics were lovely during that part. I do tend to like absurdity and there was just enough. I'm also a sucker for redemption and characters who wake up.
