Oh man, Narnia! I was thinking about this list as I walked to work today, and I totally thought of Narnia. By the time I had a chance to sit and write the list out, Narnia had totally slipped my mind. I find that line about it being always winter and never Christmas very evocative.
Jack London is also a great addition to the list. I'm not familiar with that story, but he has tons of stuff that would qualify.
