I'm still reading Winesburg, Ohio. I like it, but I don't think I love it. The book consists of a series of character sketches focused on the unusual residents of a small town. The people that Anderson describes are fascinating as case studies, but something prevents me from making the leap and truly identifying with any of them. Perhaps the reason for this is the Anderson's tone, which has thus far remained cool and analytical. For the most part, the sketches are very short and only loosely connected to each other, and I'm finding that this lack of narrative continuity is causing me to read very slowly. I think that this book may turn out to be one that is very intellectually interesting, but fails to engage on an emotional level.
